#

If you’re a non-Australian resident and wish to work, live or visit Australia, there are certain steps you’ll need to take to acquire your visa. As well as preparing copies of your passport, birth certificate, and driver’s license, if you are from a non-English speaking country, these documents will need to be translated into English. Furthermore, to be recognized by the Australian government, the translations will need to be done by a NAATI approved translator.

What is NAATI?

“NAATI” stands for the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters and is the national standards and accreditation body for translators and interpreters in Australia. A NAATI approved translator will have a letter of accreditation and a special stamp which serves as evidence the translation is NAATI certified.

When do you need the services of a NAATI translation professional?

You will need to use a NAATI translator when applying for an Australian visa (partners visa, working visa), providing your personal documents to Australian authorities (birth certificate, divorce certificate, diploma, etc.), supporting your citizenship application, entering into court proceedings, and other events in your life (travel, births, deaths, marriages in Australia).

You might need to find a NAATI translator for your travels in Australia as well. For example, if you want to translate your drivers license or provide some of the documents for travel visa, a NAATI translator will be necessary.
