Australian Federal Election Notice
The Australian federal election will be held on Saturday 18 May 2019. If you are an eligible Australian citizen living overseas you can still participate but you need to be enrolled. If you are overseas and unable to vote, complete an overseas notification form and return it to the AEC. Being overseas is a valid reason for not voting. The deadline for enrolling or updating your details is by 8pm Thursday 18 April 2019 (AEST).
If you cannot vote in-person at the Consulate, you can apply for a postal vote. Online applications for a postal vote (for those already registered to vote) are available on the AEC website at https://www.aec.gov.au/election/pva.htm
Your application must be submitted to the AEC by 6pm 15 May 2019 (AEST).
The Australian Consulate-General Shanghai will be open for in-person pre-poll voting on:
- 9am-4pm Monday 6 May - Friday 10 May 2019
- 9am-4pm Monday 13 May - Friday 17 May 2019
- 9am-4pm Saturday 18 May 2019 (Election Day).
In order to be granted access to the Australian Consulate-General Shanghai to vote in-person you will need to bring Australian photo identification. There are no exceptions to this policy. ID is not required to vote.
