The Inaugural Australia-China Sports Summit Begins in Shanghai
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 16 October 2017
Shanghai, China – The inaugural Australia-China Sports Summit begins today in Shanghai, China bringing together almost 200 industry professionals to talk about opportunities and the future of sport in both countries.
High level delegations from Australian sporting organisations including Tennis Australia, the National Basketball League, the AFL, and Football Federation Australia have descended on Shanghai for the Summit.
Joined by some iconic Australian teams including the Port Adelaide Football Club, the Newcastle Jets, the Melbourne City Football Club, and Australian sporting businesses including Gemba and Populous, the organisations will discuss the delivery of sport on the mainland, broadcasting, sponsorship, architecture and precinct design, outbound Chinese sporting investment and much more with Chinese counterparts across two days.
In a welcome message ahead of the Summit, the Australian Minister for Sport Greg Hunt said, “The Australian Government recognises the power of sport to act as a bridge between Australian and Chinese organisations, facilitating connectivity and promoting bilateral trade between Australia and China. The linking by AustCham Shanghai of Australian organisations with Chinese counterparts and potential business partners through the Summit will serve only to enhance the already successful trade relationship between the two countries.” AustCham Shanghai CEO Udo Doring noted, “AustCham Shanghai is excited to help build new connections in sport across Australia and China. This sector has seen unprecedented growth in recent years, and the Summit creates a great opportunity for experts across the different sport-related industries to come together and share what’s trending for sport in China.”
The list of more than 40 speakers that will present across the two days is available via the Summit website.
