Q&A Recap | Covid-19 - Visa Update with Fragomen

AustCham Shanghai in partnership with Fragomen, hosted an online Q&A session on visas for foreign nationals in China this Wednesday 22 April. We would like to thank Iris Zhang, Director at Fragomen for providing an in-time visa update for the Chamber members.

Iris has answered the following questions during the session:

For foreign nationals currently outside of China:
1. If you have a valid Chinese visa or residence permit, can I travel to China now?
2. If you have really urgent business needs or reasons to travel to China, can you do that and how?
3. How can you apply/renew/de-register work permits while outside of China?
4. What is the process to renew your Residency Visa if it expires while outside of China? What do you recommend people do if they need re-enter China and their Residence Visa has expired?
5. How does this impact family members (Spouse and Children) who are also looking to return to China?

For foreign nationals currently in China:
6. What will authorities do after the 60-day Automatic visa extension expires on the 30th of April?
7. What are the consequences for overstaying a visa in light of this crisis situation?

General questions:
8. Is there any indication for when the borders will reopen?
9. What are the exceptions to the 60-year old age limit for work visas?
10. Whether the China travel ban or COVID-19 has caused or will cause any policy change with Chinese visa/work authorization?
