Event Recap: International Women's Day Breakfast with Professor Emma Johnston

In celebration of International Women's Day, AustCham Shanghai's Elevate Women in Business Committee had the pleasure to welcome Australian marine ecologist Emma Johnston for a discussion on the personal rewards and challenges of being a coastal scientist.

After a short welcome speech by Frances Gong, Regional Manager at CPA Australia, AustCham Shanghai's Elevate Women in Business Committee Chair Joanne Warrin introduced our speaker to the 30 guests in attendance.

Professor Johnston presented the World Harbour Project, initiated by the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) in 2014. The project aims to build resilient urban ports and harbours through globally integrated research and management. At at time when our marine and coastal environments are facing an unprecedented range of pressures, including climate change, invasive species, and urbanisation, Emma also higlighted the importance of marine research and shared her experience as the Inaugural Director of the multi-disciplinary, cross-sector Sydney Harbour Research Program.

Thank you to our speaker for her inspirational, thought-provoking presentation, our kind venue sponsor CPA Australia and the Elevate Women in Business Committee for making this event a success!
