Event Recap: Let's Talk Footy - AFL in Shanghai
On another rainy, winter Saturday night in Shanghai (2 March), a group of footy lovers gathered at The Camel, Puxi for a Q&A session with two AFL champions: Nick Riewoldt and Gavin Wanganeen.
It was Saturday, 2 March and the mood was high with excitement to hear what Riewoldt and Wanganeen had to say ahead of this year's game at Jingwan Stadium, Shanghai on Sunday, 2 June 2019.
Riewoldt spoke on AFL's international outlook, beginning 6 years ago when St Kilda first played for premiership points against Sydney. Wanganeen, who attended both of the last two Shanghai games as an ambassador for Port Adelaide, spoke on the importance of AFL overseas as a means of connecting people and overcoming cultural barriers.
This June, St Kilda will play Port Adelaide in Shanghai's Jiangwan stadium. Port Adelaide have hosted the Shanghai game since 2017, this year marks the beginning of a new deal bringing St Kilda to Shanghai each year for a game until 2021.
