Event Recap: Screening of 'Streets of Your Town'

Photography credits: HASSELL

AustCham Shanghai's Construction and Property Committee, in partnership with HASSELL, had the pleasure to welcome over 35 guests on Thursday 1 March for an exclusive screening party of the acclaimed Australian documentary Streets of Your Town.

After a short welcome speech by Richard Mullane, Principal at HASSELL Shanghai, comedian, broadcaster, and architecture enthusiast Tim Ross gave a video introduction to open the screening.

Streets of Your Town is a two-part series focusing on the aesthetics of our Australian suburbs. In the 1950s, 60s and 70s Australian architects embraced Modernism in a way that saw their nation have some of the best domestic architecture in the world. They helped create a regional style of architecture that was accessible to almost all Australians. Fast forward to 2016 and Australia has arguably some of the worst suburban residential architecture in the world. How and why did Australia go from Modernism to McMansionism? In this film, Tim sought to find out why.

Thank you to Tim Ross for his kind video introduction, HASSELL's staff for hosting us in their studio and of course all guests who joined us for this intimate screening session.
