Highlights from the 2018 Australia Day BBQ
On Saturday 27 January AustCham Shanghai, in partnership with Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA), had the great pleasure to host around 200 guests from the Australian community in Shanghai for our annual Australia Day BBQ.
After a short welcome from Richard Coote, National Manager – China, Senior Trade Commissioner and Deputy Consul-General (Commercial), Betty Teng, Business Development Manager at Meat & Livestock Australia and Maggie Zhou, Alibaba's Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand, guests started to dig into the impressive buffet spread prepared by our host Kakadu, as well as freshly grilled beef and lamb provided by MLA's selected True Aussie producers. If this wasn't enough to satisfy our tastebuds, MLA also invited two chefs to showcase how to incorporate Aussie ingredients into traditional Chinese cuisine, with a mouth-watering Aussie beef and lamb hotpot station. Aussie beer and wine were also flowing for over 5 hours to wash all this meaty goodness down thanks to Ozasia and Summergate Fine Wines.
No Australia Day celebration would be complete without a pavlova for dessert. This year we had no less than 6 pavs on display thanks to professional chefs from Andaz Xintiandi, M on the Bund, BANG by mr Willis, Pelikan, Henkes and mr Willis. 4 lucky judges had the difficult task of tasting these mouth-watering creations, looking for the best crust, texture, balance and presentation. Congratulations to this year's winner Candy Pei from Henkes!
Kids were kept warm and entertained with colouring supplies, badminton, foosball and a huge jumping castle provided by Asian Tigers. Triple J's Hottest 100 was pumping all day live from Down Under in between our amazing live band's sets. Thank you to the Chairmen for keeping guests dancing and singing all afternoon long!
