On Friday 10 March, AustCham Shanghai was pleased to host a ChatGPT Event in collaboration with Microsoft, Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (ACEM), Shanghai AI Industry Association, Jingteng Tech and Co-Effort Law Firm.
The event gathered over 120 guests to discuss the impact of ChatGPT and the future allocation and application of resources from technical, academic, business, and legal perspectives. The attendance was across AustCham Shanghai member companies, domestic and international company representatives, and Antai faculty students and alumni.
The event began with opening remarks from Simon Woods, CEO and Executive Director at AustCham Shanghai; Haitao Yin, Vice Dean and Professor at ACEM; Lily Zheng, Director of Partner Strategy for Greater China Area at Microsoft; and Jiang Yong, Deputy Secretary-General at Shanghai Association of AI. The opening speakers delivered introductory statements, expressing their enthusiasm about ChatGPT and the transformative potential of AI technology.
Austin Wang, Technical Director of SMC&GPS at Microsoft China, delivered a presentation entitled "Unleash the Power of AI", in which he detailed the extensive capabilities of ChatGPT, including its use of deep reinforcement and machine learning techniques, in combination with human feedback, to carry out tasks such as content production, summarization, code development, and semantic research.
Following the speech, a panel discussion was moderated by Beecher Ashley-Brown, who is the Co-founder and CEO of Ajinga. The participants in the discussion included Chunxiao Li, the Academic Director of AI-MBA program and Assistant Professor of ACEM; Mr. Jazzen Chen, the international strategy and operations director of Jingteng Tech; and Sibo Qing, the senior partner of Co-effort Law Firm.
During the discussion, Jazzen Chen posed the opportunity to integrate ChatGPT into the mixed reality technology area and transform commercial communication experience. Sibo further added the present concern of managing ChatGPT for corporations, such as Intellectual Property protection and data infringement matters. Chunxiao Li noted from an education point of view that ChatGPT is expected to impact the sector in the next 3 to 5 years. The tool has the potential to expedite the learning process of students, but also has its constraints such as selection biases. Haihui Wang, Director of International Office of ACEM, delivered the concluding statement and emphasized the importance of joint efforts from various industries on exploring and managing the cutting-edge technology and knowledge.
