The Modern Workforce: The Importance of Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion is one of the top agenda topics at Hays. Every year they produce a survey based report, covering the diversity aspects in the workplace, with the hope to support their clients in delivering their commitments to create greater diversity and inclusion in their workforce.

Brought to you by the AustCham Shanghai Elevate Women in Leadership Committee and Hays Recruiting, join us for light breakfast and panel discussion on workplace diversity.

Topics for the panel discussion will reflect the findings of last year’s report which include:

  • Workplace diversity is vital as a foundation for innovation and creativity and also for recruiting and keeping the best talent.
  • 63% of respondents across all markets believe leaders hold a bias towards people who look, think or act like they do.
  • While two thirds of respondents work for organisations that set individual diversity targets for senior and line managers only nine per cent told us these targets are actively worked towards.
  • Less than a third of all respondents believe people of equal ability in their organisation have equal access to career opportunity regardless of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, family commitments, marital status, race, religion or sexuality.
  • Fewer employees now have a male boss. Still over half of respondents, 58%, report to a male; but this is down from 63% last year and 67% two years ago.
