Deep dive into internships with AustCham Shanghai’s Education and HR Industry Forums. This afternoon panel will provide insights on internships from both an Employer and Educator’s perspective. Learn how HR Directors effectively manage internship programs for their companies while also ensuring that they are providing meaningful career experiences for their interns. Australian Education representatives will also discuss the value of work-integrated learning and what graduates are expecting as more and more Chinese graduates return to home for employment. This event is primarily targeted towards employers hiring interns, and Australian educators who are running Internship programs in their curriculum.

Andrew Nip
Head of People & Culture, Greater China;

Hays Asia

Andrew Nip currently holds the positions of Asia Head of Talent, Learning & Development and Recruitment and Head of People and Culture for global specialist recruitment leader Hays. He is a Board director with experience in HR, recruitment and learning and development across the Asia-Pacific region. With a double degree in Psychology and Human Resource Management, Andrew’s expertise ranges from talent attraction to talent management across a wide range of industries. He is currently responsible for the overall people strategies across the firm’s 12 offices in Asia. Andrew is the Chairperson of the Australian Chamber of Commerce education and employability committee in Shanghai, and is a regular speaker at career forums, university summits and leadership conferences. Prior to his role in Asia, Andrew specialized in recruiting in the investment banking sector with Hays Australia.


Amanda Barry
Director of the China Liaison Office
Australian National University

Dr Amanda Barry is the founding Director of the Australian National University’s China Liaison Office, is responsible for deepening and strengthening the university’s China engagement across multiple research partnerships as well as through student pathways, alumni relations and industry engagement. Amanda was previously Director of Academics at The Beijing Center, a research, education and study abroad program at Beijing’s University of International Business and Economics. Amanda holds a PhD in Australian Indigenous history from the University of Melbourne and has published, presented and taught internationally. Since moving to Beijing in 2005 she has worked in higher education, cultural diplomacy, business consulting and the arts including at the Australian Embassy, Peking University, the Foundation for Australian Studies in China and The Beijing Center.

Jessica Wang

Jessica Wang is a second-year postgraduate at the University of Sydney majoring in Marketing and Business Analytics. During her time at university, she has served in different industries in both Shanghai and Sydney. Her NFP marketing internship with the Woodville Alliance in Sydney, and alumni program with the Australian Chamber of Commerce have helped her develop experience and practical knowledge about marketing and customer centricity. Furthermore, internships with Swarovski and Decathlon have inspired her on internal and external corporate management and communication.
