The Australian Chamber of Commerce Shanghai (AustCham Shanghai) is the peak body for Australian business in East China.
As a membership-based organisation, AustCham Shanghai represents businesses and individuals involved in trade and investment between Australia and China and provides support, education, advocacy and business services.
Founded in 1994, AustCham Shanghai is the largest Australian Chamber of Commerce in Greater China. As the trading relationship has evolved beyond energy and resources to encapsulate a wide variety of sectors, AustCham Shanghai has grown to represent businesses in every sector, from manufacturing, food and beverage, health and aged care, to education, and financial services.
The Chamber is based at Australia House by AustCham Shanghai, a standalone 5,300sqm seven-storey building in downtown Shanghai that provides physical offices, co-working spaces, food and beverage outlets, event spaces and showcase opportunities for the Australia-China business community. The development is in partnership with Anken, a long-term member of the Chamber.

Australian Consul General, Shanghai
Over 30 years ago, AustCham Shanghai was born out of the Australian Consulate. In the years since, the business community has had the enduring support of Consuls General, past and present.
In January 2024, we welcomed John Williams, Australian Consul General, Shanghai, as the Patron of AustCham Shanghai. John is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and has previously served in various foreign affairs and trade roles, most recently as Australia’s Acting High Commissioner to Suva, Fiji. His previous postings have included Indonesia, Thailand, the Lao PDR and time in Shanghai during the 2010 World Expo.
We’re delighted to have John’s support as our Patron, and look forward to working with him to strengthen the substantial commercial links between Australia and China.
